A little Q and A with Leafy Couture York
We sat down for a cuppa with Beth from Leafy Couture York who joined us at the beginning of the year to see how her first 8 months in business have been…
What do you love most about your new job
It’s that warm feeling inside you have when you’re just delivering joy no matter what, even in sometimes the saddest of circumstances, just that moment the joy of beautiful fragranced flowers can make such a difference to that person in that moment!
What’s your favourite flower?
I have so many favourites and it keeps changing throughout the season. Currently Dahlias are just stunning which I love, they add so much interest and texture.
What excites you most about the flower industry?
That there seems to be no end of possibilities of what you can achieve with flowers these days. I saw something recently that just totally wowed me; it was a glass footpath with greenery & flowers exploding from it and it was just genius and made me stop and think there really are no boundaries as to what you can achieve if you have the right tools & vision!
What was in your own wedding bouquet?
When I got married we eloped to Sorrento. I was told by the wedding planner “devi avere Cala”(you must have Cala) so I did!
What made you decide to become part of the Leafy family
I’d always had a little dream to become a florist & attended the Introduction to Floristry course at Leafy Couture and just found myself wrapped up in happiness the entire time I was on the course. At the time of attending the course I’d recently lost my Mum & felt lost myself at that time. My Mum knew of my floristry dream and she was my inspiration to take the leap of faith and she continues to inspire me every single day. I have the most beautiful picture of her in my workshop and I chat away to her all the time while I’m in there working.
Give a bit of background to your work history
I loved marketing and much later in life decided to take a degree in it, whilst carrying out a full time demanding role. I was really happy to gain my degree which then took me on to heading up a brand and marketing team for a very successful family business. One of my greatest marketing achievements was being integral in carrying out a full rebrand for the company which had looked the same for over 40yrs… it was scary but very exciting! I also was extremely proud to be asked to create a Foundation for the same business which was an honour & privilege to be involved with, the lives that have been changed through the Foundation has just been incredible.
What have been some career highlights so far?
Having a background in marketing I feel has helped me secure some fabulous flower contracts in these early months of setting up my business which I am super excited to be working with some of Yorks best hotels on this. I’m always on the look out for new ways to work with clients so watch this space!
What does a typical week look like for you?
There really is no typical week for me as you never know what’s coming in & when. Just when you think you’ve planned your week you’ll get a call to create something beautiful for a customer! If I ever had a typical week it would include always looking at new opportunities & exploring the possibilities of what those outcomes would be. Engaging with followers on social with meaningful content rather than just posting for postings sake. I do a lot of sympathy work which seems to come in almost weekly so there is always a lot of sensitive planning that goes into each dedication. Research, research, research forms a big part of my week too contacting potential new B2B clients … guess that’s the marketeer still in me! And then of course last but not least there’s my beautiful goldie who’s always by my side and needs lots of walks, cuddles and of course treats galore!
